SASPA 2026 Twilight – AI and Assessment: Shifting the Conversation

It’s time to move on from attempting to detect AI-generated content across unsupervised assessments. It’s a waste of teachers’ precious time and risks compromising positive relationships between students and educators. Instead, let’s give teachers the time and tools to start structurally redesigning our assessment practices to verify student thinking and understanding. This session will equip educators with the principles and assessment practices to respond to both the challenges and opportunities that AI is bringing to traditional assessment.

Join us at our twilight – AI and Assessment: Shifting the Conversation presented by Adrian Cotterell. Adrian spent more than 10 years as an English and History teacher and was the Director of Studies (ELC-Year 12) at a large, multi-campus school in South Australia. He now works with teachers across Australia, helping educators effectively respond to the challenges and opportunities AI is bringing to traditional assessment. He is co-founder and managing director of Thinking Mode, an AI-powered assessment platform that verifies student understanding in the AI era.
